Other than those who have conveniently wiped out their memories for reasons better known to them, I am sure any rational thinking person would remember and appreciate the peaceful days of 2002-3, when human beings were treated as human beings. Those days were free from bomb blasts (which is now turning to be a daily event from a weekly one) and even the Prime Minister could move not only in Colombo but even to places like Nallur Kovil with minimum security.
Looks like events have taken a u-turn since those tranquil and pleasant days of hope to the days of perpetual gloom. People now leave their homes in the morning without knowing they would return to see the faces of their children by the end of the day. Life has become so uncertain.
I took this cartoon from yesterdays (Jan 20) Rivira Sunday newspaper, which rightly depicts the pathetic situation of the country today. This might not be too far from reality. We can only sympathize our representatives who have to live a life of constant fear.
